Rest A While

“And he said to them, “Come away by yourselves to a desolate place and rest a while.” For many were coming and going, and they had no leisure even to eat.”

‭‭Mark‬ ‭6:31‬ ‭ESV‬‬

This scripture came to mind recently and is so simply wonderful. Jesus knew the importance of getting away, finding quiet, and seeking rest. He did it Himself, and He calls us to do the same. Rest is a gift that we must receive and stop the guilt behind it. (preaching to me)

But I also love that if you keep reading in this story, the people still followed them (the story of Jesus feeding the 5,000). And it was getting late and they were far off, so Jesus had compassion on the people and as the story goes, He fed all 5,000 with just 5 loaves of bread and 2 fish.

He still served. They still showed compassion on the people who needed them.

I bring this up because many of us are moms. Getting away to a desolate place isn’t the easiest thing to do in this season of life, and God knows this. But there are times where we can, and often we fill it with busyness and endless scrolling. He gives His beloved REST.

If finding quiet is hard for you, pray and ask God to show you where you are missing opportunities. Whether it’s early in the mornings, later at night, or while a baby naps. (Note: I had the WORST nappers….just not even fair.)
